The Black Heritage Series by the US Postal Services first issue was on February 1, 1978 with the Harriet Tubman
issue. This series is still being produced through out 2009. There are many great individuals shown in this series, but
I believe a few were left out. The individuals we've added were on early issues of postage prior to the series and
will help bring this series a new begining.
Booker T. Washington 1856-1915 America's foremost black educator of the late
19th & early 20th century.Two stamps issued to honor this man the 1st in 1940 with Holland cachet from the Famous
Americans Series, Educators 10 cent issue, and the 2nd a 3 cent with his original home on the stamp pictured here on
cover with a Fleetwood cachet issued April 5,1956.
